Upper School Well-being Program

  • Upper School Schedule
    • Students arrive on campus at 8:40, with an extra 20 minutes to sleep in on Wednesdays. This late start allows students to get more sleep, which their bodies and brains need. We use the extra time in the morning for faculty collaboration and professional development, and office hours for students who would like extra help, either in-person or virtually from home via our video conferencing platform.
    • Classes meet either 3 or 4 times a week. On days when classes do not meet, they don't have extra asynchronous homework. Total instructional time per week averages 210 minutes, which aligns with what high school schedule consultants (yes, that's a thing!) recommend.
  • Advisory
    • Starting in Grade 9, students are paired with an academic advisor who knows and supports each of their advisees and families on their ICS academic journey
  • Class Trips and Traditions
    • Indian Creek School has a great history of experiences and traditions for Upper School students, including senior speeches, pep rally, CreekFest, Creek cup, poetry out loud, senior-faculty competitions, clubs, lip sync battles, and more!
    • Along with our great traditions the beginning of each school year in the ICS Upper School brings with it Class Trips, a tradition students talk about for years to come! During Class Trips, students get to know one another, build strong bonds as a class community, and learn about our ICS values of kindness, well-being, and excellence.
  • Human Development Program
    • Every Middle School and Upper School student at Indian Creek School takes our hallmark course, Human Development, every year. Focusing on each phase of cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development, students learn about themselves, their bodies, their brains, their identities, their decision-making, and how they interact with the world around them.
Indian Creek school is a co-educational, college preparatory independent school, located in Crownsville, Maryland.  Students in Pre-K3 through grade 12 receive a vibrant educational experience based on excellent academics steeped in strong student-teacher connections.
