The 6th grade literature department is hosting our fourth annual Family Read Adventure. This a great opportunity for parents and their children to read, analyze, interpret, discuss, identify challenges, and so much more! Your participation will not only help your child, but other students as well, as we broaden our thought process and see the world through different eyes.
This assignment involves parents and children selecting and reading the same book from seven options, then creating a display and participating in an online discussion with other parents and students who have read the same book. This is a mandatory assignment that we hope all participants will enjoy.
On November 15th we ask that you accompany your child to room 5 between 3:30-5:00 p.m. to select a book together. If you cannot make this time, the students will be able to select from the remaining books the following day. I greatly encourage you to come and share in the experience with your child. The students will read the book between November 15th and December 4th. Online discussions will take place during the week of December 4th -8th and displays will be due December 11th.
An email will be sent by your child’s teacher with the dates and times of your online discussion night. Each parent will be enrolled in the Haiku page related to the selected book to join in on the discussion. Parents and students will answer questions that are posted. In addition, everyone will have the opportunity to have an open dialogue with one another about the selected books in an online book club format. I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for your continued support as we build our literature program.
