Lower School "Book Tasting" Whets Students Appetite for Literature

On Friday, Nov. 18, Book Buddies from grades 2, 3, and 5 participated in a "Book Tasting" Build-a-Book event. This opportunity was a great way for students to “taste” new books, try new genres, and get excited for different novels.

Books were specifically selected by Lower School Librarian Ms. Amy Coleman.  During this event, students spent time reading parts of a book, inspected the covers, and checked out the text features. Then students were asked to write a book review on a book they "tasted." They shared and discussed their favorite finds with each other.

As a bonus, the cafeteria was decorated to look like a diner. Festive tablecloths, placemats, and table decor set the scene for a fun event! Teachers acted as servers wearing checkered aprons that matched the tablecloths. Students could place their breakfast orders with their server while "tasting" a good book. Students enjoyed lemonade, hot chocolate, donut holes, pretzels, or hardboiled eggs.

Indian Creek's first "Book Tasting" was a great success. The students can't wait until the next event in the spring!
