Sixth Grade Studies Factors that Influence Climate

Sixth grade students have been learning about factors that influence climate. Over the past few weeks, they have performed two experiments and watched demonstrations. The first experiment had the students shine a light on a globe while another turned it to show how sunlight relates to latitude. In the second experiment, students took a temperature gauge to four classrooms to record the temperature. This demonstrated the concept of microclimates. The demonstration involved placing balloons filled with carbon dioxide under heat lamps. Students had to relate how the heat lamps, acting as the sun, warmed the Earth and how the ozone layer kept the heat inside.
