Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society Inducts 11 Pioneering Members

On Tuesday February 5, Indian Creek held its very first induction ceremony for Mu Alpha Theta, which is an esteemed math honor society. Through the efforts of ICS sophomore Annabelle Derrick and others, Indian Creek has opened a local chapter of this prestigious organization. Eleven new members were inducted into the inaugural Indian Creek chapter during an All School meeting. 
 
Mu Alpha Theta has chapters worldwide. It is an organization dedicated to promoting scholarship in mathematics and establishing math as an integral part of high school and junior college education. The name Mu Alpha Theta is constructed from the Greek lettering for the phonemes m, a, and th.
 
The pioneering officers for the Indian Creek Mu Alpha Theta chapter are Ford Smith '19, President, Adam Bizri '19, Vice-President, Will Morrissey '19, Treasurer, and Annabelle Derrick '21, Secretary. Members of Mu Alpha Theta plan to focus on service, especially in the area of providing and facilitating math help sessions for other ICS students.
