Indian Creek's "The Heidi Chronicles" Earns Eight Cappies Nominations
Congratulations to the cast and crew of the Indian Creek School fall play The Heidi Chronicles, for earning eight Cappies nominations for the 2017-18 season!
The Cappies are a critics and awards program for high school theater. Created in the summer of 1999 by Bill Strauss, author of Millennials Rising: The Next Great Generation and founder of the Capitol Steps, and Judy Bowns, the Fairfax County Public Schools theatre resource teacher, the Cappies provide an opportunity for students involved in high school theater to strengthen and celebrate their education in the arts and journalism. There are currently fifteen Cappies chapters across the US and Canada. Within each chapter, every participating high school forms a critic team of students and designates at least one of its school shows to be its Cappies show which will be attended and reviewed by the critic teams from other schools. The critic teams are trained in theatre criticism, the Cappies rules, and fairness and respect for their fellow students who are putting on the Cappies designated shows.
Indian Creek School became a member of the Cappies of Baltimore (a group representing over 20 schools, both public and private) in 2013 and has had many nominees and Cappies winners in our short history with the group. Indian Creek students have been nominated for many Cappies awards, and the School’s 2014 play, The Laramie Project, was awarded Best Play. This year's spring musical, Heathers the Musical (High School Version), was produced too late to be considered for Cappies nominations this year.
Congratulations to the Indian Creek students, who have been nominated for Cappies Awards for their work in The Heidi Chronicles. Winners will be announced at the Cappies Awards Ceremony at the Hippodrome Theater in Baltimore, on May 20.
