8th Grade Trip to the Holocaust Memorial Museum

Indian Creek School is fortunately able to reap the multiple benefits of our proximity to our nation’s capital. This Spring in conjunction with our study of World War II, the reading of Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel’s Night, and Livia Bitton-Jackson’s I Have Lived a Thousand Years, extending our discussions of Civil Rights events, and supporting our experience of human rights discussions in class, we are planning a trip to Washington, DC to get a first-hand experience of these topics.

We will begin our trip with the World War II Memorial where students are challenged by a scavenger hunt of memorial topics. We will then take a short walk over to the Mall and enjoy a lunch in the National Gallery of Art’s East Wing food court, Cascades. The food service there is diverse and delicious. After lunch the trip will include a student and chaperone self-guided tour of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum which is one of our finest and most powerful National exhibits. Finally, we will be returning to India Creek School as more complete, enriched, and enlightened individuals with a more thorough understanding of the complex world which binds us all together in our human experience.
