Alumni Matt Bucci ’12 and Ryan Baukhages ’14 to Join Varsity Boys Lacrosse Coaching Staff for 2019
Indian Creek School is pleased to announce that alumni Matt Bucci '12 anf Ryan Baukhages '14 will join the Eagles Varsity Lacrosse Coaching Staff this spring.
Bucci, a midfielder and faceoff specialist, captained the 2012 Indian Creek boy’s lacrosse team and was the team’s Most Outstanding Player. Bucci also ranked in the top 10 in Anne Arundel County in scoring and earned MIAA All-Conference honors. After finishing his career at Indian Creek, Bucci went on to play two seasons at Washington College, helping to the 2013 and 2014 reach the NCAA Division III Tournament. Coach Bucci is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Education at Johns Hopkins University, while coaching 7/8 Boys Basketball and substitute teaching at ICS. This season, he will be working primarily with the midfielders and faceoff specialist, and assist running the substitution box for the Eagles.
Baukhages, an attackman while at ICS, helped the 2014 squad win the school’s first MIAA C Conference Championship. While at Indian Creek, Coach Baukhages was a two-time All-MIAA C Conference honoree, and was also named Capital-Gazette 1st Team All-Anne Arundel County in 2014. After graduating from ICS, Coach Baukhages went on to play at Frostburg State. While at Frostburg, he was a 4-time Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection and served as team captain for the 2018 season. Baukhages graduated Summa Cum Laude in May. Coach Baukhages currently works at Anne Arundel Medical Center as scribe while pursuing a career in medicine. He will be working primarily with the Eagles offense this season.
On the addition of Bucci and Baukhages to the coaching staff, head coach Jason Werner said, “I am pleased to have a pair of alumni join our staff this season. It speaks volumes about the experience they had as players at ICS under Coach Fretwell. Not only do they understand the lacrosse program’s history, they were an integral part of shaping it as players. I am most of excited about the energy and enthusiasm they will bring each day, as well as their ability to relate our players.”
The boys lacrosse team finished the 2018 season with a 14-5, capturing the school’s third MIAA C Conference championship. The 2019 team opens up their regular season with a home game on Monday, March 11, against Concordia Prep.
