CREEK Volleyball Continues to Amaze On and Off the Court

What a season for ICS Volleyball! Our Eagles continue to impress, both on and off the court. Last Saturday, October 6, several members of the team traveled with Coach Somerville to visit Ms. Bridget Archer, a stage four cancer patient. During their visit, the girls learned about the history and culture of Guyana. They asked questions, saw pictures, and looked at paintings from that area with Ms. Archer. Ms. Archer concluded their visit with some words of encouragement: “I can't wait to meet the rest of the team and good luck on the rest of the season and bring home the championship trophy".

The team returned to school on Monday, October 8 to continue their hot streak, as they downed another undefeated in the division opponent, Friends School, 3-1. This win propelled the Eagles into the top spot in the division with two games remaining on the schedule.

On Wednesday, October 10, ICS Volleyball finished off the divisional play with a 3-0 win over Key School in a 'Dig Pink' game. This game solidified the Eagles’ spot at the top of the division with a 7-1 record.

The team had some fun while waiting for the Playoffs to begin, with an unconventional – but fun -CREEKFest game against Chesapeake Science Point. When the opposing team arrived without enough players to field an official match, other Indian Creek students jumped in to join in a friendly match. Coach Roth was incredibly impressed with his players as well as the ICS fans for treating our guests and with respect and friendship, and welcoming our newest volleyball coach, Mrs. Dickinson, with an unforgettable game.

To prepare for their playoff run, the Eagles were invited to practice with the Navy squad on Monday, October 12. The girls visited the Naval Academy to observe what a college level practice looks like. They were inspired by how hard the midshipmen worked on the court as well as off, by reviewing plays on paper and the whiteboard. This was an amazing opportunity for our student athletes. Special thanks go out to the Naval Academy for hosting us and to Mr. Larkin for arranging this joint practice.

CREEK Nation: Please come out to support our Volleyball team next week as we begin our run at home against the winner of Oldfields and Key.
