Indian Creek Classes of 2025 and 2024 Continue Partnership with The Light House of Annapolis
Indian Creek School is thrilled to continue our partnership with the Light House Shelter, an organization that provides both support and prevention for homelessness in the Annapolis area. As the Light House mission states “The Light House rebuilds lives with compassion by providing shelter and services to prevent homelessness and empower people as they transition toward self-sufficiency.” For over 15 years, Indian Creek has supported the Light House of Annapolis in several ways.
This year, students and teachers in grades 7 and 8 are participating in the shelter's bagged lunch program, packing and delivering lunches to the Light House twice a month. These donations alternate between lunches packed at home and brought in by students, and lunches packed at school with items purchased by Indian Creek. Indian Creek's Holiday Sharing program will benefit the Light House as well, as students will come together to donate items that will support the women residents. Additionally, every other week, small groups of Indian Creek students travel to the shelter to volunteer with their faculty Advisors and Director of Campus Connections Bruce Crossman.
During these visits, students volunteer in organizing the pantry, distributing bagged lunches, helping with yard work, and serving hot lunches to the residents, among other activities. So far this year, two advisory groups have traveled to The Light House. Cate '23 shared, "Helping at the Light House shelter was a really good experience because everybody was super nice. We learned not to make judgements about people and to just be kind to everyone. I hope that my group gets to go back again." The students' work with the Light House Shelter has been extremely valuable and we are so happy to be able to continue this partnership.
