"Inevitable and Only" Author Lisa Rosinsky Workshops with Indian Creek Students

On Monday, October 16, Boston-based author Lisa Rosinsky visited Indian Creek School to speak with the seventh through twelfth grade students about her journey from writing poetry and stories as a hobby to becoming a published author, and to introduce her debut novel Inevitable and Only.

In a humorous and down-to-earth way, the author shared her experiences as a young author with the students. She shared her efforts to maintain discipline and stick to a writing schedule, and also the challenges of staying positive through the (somewhat exhaustive) editing process. She also shared insight into her behind-the-scenes workings with the publisher to choose cover art and other stylistic details for her book. Of particular interest to the students was the fact that Ms. Rosinsky completed much of her novel as part of the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in November, in which many Indian Creek students participate. After giving a presentation to the students about her experience, Ms. Rosinsky answered questions from the audience, ranging from inquiries about her inspiration for parts of the story, to her path as a writer, to what’s coming next (another novel!)

After the assembly, Ms. Rosinsky conducted writing workshops with seventh grade students in their English classes, and distributed autographed copies to students who had pre-ordered the novel. Thank you to author Lisa Rosinsky for showing Indian Creek students that becoming an author is accessible goal for young writers who have the talent, drive, and perseverance.

About the book: What would you do . . . if you found out you had a long-lost sister? Who was completely different from you, and totally perfect? Acadia has always had a great relationship with her father, which is why the bombshell that he has another daughter absolutely destroys her. How is Acadia supposed to call someone family when she’s a symbol of everything wrong with the one she had? And how is she supposed to share a life with her?

Inevitable and Only was named one of Barnes & Noble Teen’s 12 Most Anticipated Indie YA Novels of 2017. Kirkus says: “Rosinsky’s debut offers up an extremely diverse cast of characters who interact with vivacity and authentic emotion. A backdrop of theater quotes and scenes, including a healthy dose of Shakespeare, gives the story a sweet connection to the acting world… An excellent read.”
