Seniors Explore Role of Media in Political Socialization at Newseum

On Wednesday, October 11, the Upper School seniors went on a field trip to the Newseum in Washington, DC. This trip allows seniors studying civics in U.S. Government and AP U.S. Government & Politics to investigate the role of the media in political socialization (how we come to know about politics and develop our personal political ideology) and as a linkage institution connecting citizens to government through the dissemination of information about government activities and policies and the publicizing of the concerns of individuals and groups about the issues of the day. A favorite exhibit for most students was the complete collection of all the Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs set out by year with comments by many of the winning photographers.
