Senior Albany Bloor Named 2018 National Merit Scholar Commended Student
Upper School Head Gerard J.P. Connolly of Indian Creek School announced today that senior Albany Bloor has been named a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) will be presented to Albany during an upcoming all-school assembly.
Albany’s talents spread way beyond her test scores. At Indian Creek, she holds the position of goalie for the varsity soccer and lacrosse teams, and a member of the basketball team. She is Captain of the Math Team, President of the National Honor Society, and is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and the Spanish Honor Society. Albany also takes an active role on the Tech Crew for the drama department, and serves as a tech crew advisor for the Lower School. Albany is a member of the Indian Creek S.T.E.M. program. Next year, she hopes to study Electrical Engineering at one of the nation's top engineering schools.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. These students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who took the 2016 PSAT. “The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue in their pursuit of academic success.”
