AP U.S. History Students Get to Know Early Settlements through Colonial Speed Dating

Mrs. Montgomery's AP U.S. History students found an entertaining, efficient way to get to know the early Colonies: They created a "Colonial Speed Dating" event for their class. Through this activity, each student took on the personification of a colony, conducting research and becoming an expert in their territory. Taking on the role of their "colonies,"the students then presented their colony to each other one-on-one in order to "get to know" each other better. The students then chose the colony that was most like theirs, the one least like theirs, the ones who would be their biggest competitor, their best ally, and their best trade partner. This fun and creative lesson gave the AP students a fun and memorable way to learn colonial history - and provided a lot of laughs!
