ICS Senior Micah Ferrell-Rogers Participates in U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum's 30th Anniversary Celebration at U.S. Capitol

Indian Creek senior Micah Ferrell-Rogers was honored to participate in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's 30th Anniversary celebration at the U.S. Capital on Thursday, April 20 .  She was selected to be one of six candle lighters at the event. As part of her service, Micah was also invited to attend a 30th anniversary dinner that evening at the waterfront in Washington, DC.

Micah has served as a U.S. Holocaust Memorial ambassador through the museum's "Bringing the Lessons Home" program for the past three years. This program introduces local high school students to Holocaust history and encourages them to share its lessons with their family, friends, and community.  The goal of the program is to emphasize that the history and lessons of the Holocaust are relevant to today’s world. By encouraging students like Micah to examine the implications of the Holocaust for their own lives, the program improves their ability to analyze current events that affect their community and the larger world. This understanding gives students a concrete basis for exploring the nature of indifference, racism, and genocide, as well as their roles as citizens of a democracy. The program provides a learning environment in which the insights and opinions of young people are taken seriously.

Micah has enjoyed her experience through this program, and has represented Indian Creek School well through her service.  Students interested in learning more about the program can find information at this link.
