Indian Creek Welcomes New Trustees

As Indian Creek enters its 50th school year, we are thrilled to welcome 6 new members to the Board of Trustees. The Board sets the School’s strategic direction and provides oversight and stewardship for the School. Indian Creek’s Board of Trustees is comprised of 23 past and present parents, alumni, and community leaders. (More information about the Board can be found at this link.) We welcome the following new Trustees, who will help chart the course for Indian Creek’s next 50 years:

Russell Fugett
Russell Fugett is joining the Board of Trustees, after coming to the ICS community in 2020 as a parent. He lives in Crofton, Maryland, with his wife Selah and daughters Paige ’32 and Natalie. Russell is the CEO of Jumla Network and Executive Director of Endowment Commons.

Jumla Network is a strategic consultancy and knowledge network focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Jumla's non-profit arm, Endowment Commons, is focused on closing the racial wealth gap by investing in diverse funds and strategies and granting the proceeds of the endowment with other mission aligned non-profits.

Russell hosts his own podcast Leadership, Legacy, and Love, as well as Selah’s podcast Progress Over Perfection. He is also an avid DC/Baltimore area sports fan who hopes to find time to get back on the golf course.

In addition to his dedication to ICS, Russell serves on the Selection Advisory Committee of Greenlight Baltimore and is Past-President, 2nd VP, and Chaplain of the John Eager Howard (Baltimore) Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He is a partner at Union Church, where he serves as the liaison to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank and as a coach of group leaders.

“My family loves Indian Creek because of its nurturing environment. We love the teachers and the sense of community that the school fosters. I’m excited to join the board as we prepare to celebrate 50 years! I’m looking forward to contributing to the development of the vision and implementation of the plan for the next 50 years and beyond. Our young people will face unimaginable opportunities and challenges in their lifetimes. I look forward to partnering with my fellow Trustees as well as faculty, staff, parents, and alumni in creating an educational culture and environment that develops the leaders, critical thinkers, and problem solvers that we will need in our increasingly complex world.”

Stephen Margerum '94
Indian Creek welcomes Stephen Margerum ’94 to the Board of Trustees. An alum of the Evergreen Class of 1994, Stephen is also a parent to current Creekers, Jack ’27 and Sophia ’29. Stephen is the founder of Cove Property Management, an award-winning full-service property management and investment firm. Stephen also shares his time with the Maryland Multifamily Housing Association and the Institute of Real Estate Management.  Outside of this work, Stephen enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, especially boating fishing, and camping.

From his days as a student, Stephen fondly remembers running around the cornfield at the Evergreen campus, and is grateful for the lifelong relationships he formed at the Creek.

“ICS supports the well-being of every student while providing a nurturing environment and outstanding educational programs and opportunities. I am thrilled to be a Trustee so that I can give back to the community that molded me.”

Robert Pascal '96
Indian Creek welcomes Rob Pascal ’96 to the Board of Trustees. An alumnus of the Evergreen Class of 1996, Rob is also a parent to current Creekers, Hays ’33 and Lila ’35. Rob is the owner of St. Michaels Harbour Inn, Marina, and Spa, in St. Michaels, Maryland.

Carrie (Marbury) Simmons '97
Indian Creek welcomes Carrie (Marbury) Simmons ’97 to the Board of Trustees. An alumna of the Evergreen Class of 1997, Carrie is a parent to current Creekers, Hadley ’32 and Wills ’35.

Carrie works as Director of Marketing and Development for the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club, Tidewater Inn and Libbey's Coastal Kitchen + Cocktails, in Kent Island, Maryland. Carrie oversees company-wide marketing and public relations initiatives, brand development, and future development/expansion projects for CBBC and its hospitality operations across the Eastern Shore. Outside of this work, Carrie is actively involved with fundraising efforts for the Anne Arundel Medical Center and serves on the board of the Building Traditions Society Leadership Council.

Carrie is a proponent of all things health and fitness, and is proud to have just run her first half-marathon. She enjoys spending time in the woods and hiking with family and friends, and spends lots of weekends at the beach playing in the ocean.

Carrie fondly remembers her time as a student at ICS.  In fact, she and her husband Tom met in Kindergarten and worked together at ICS summer camp, before officially starting to date 20 years later.

“Indian Creek feels like home. I love that we are such an inclusive community centered on respect and kindness. I truly believe that ICS gives our children the opportunity to not only have a wonderful education but creates a foundation that aligns with our family values.”

Adam Winer
Adam Winer joins the Board of Trustees, after becoming part of the ICS community in 2018 as a parent. He lives in Severna Park, Maryland, with his wife Heather and sons Max ’22 and Grey ’24. Adam is the Director of Business Development at A.J. Properties, Inc., a commercial real estate and property management company. Adam is also the managing partner at Savage Mill in Howard County.

Aside from work and family, Adam’s primary passion is creative design. Whether it be exterior, landscape design or interior design, his mind never stops generating ideas. He loves visualizing and identifying a project and working to execute it. This trait will serve him well as a Trustee for Indian Creek!

“When we began our search for a Middle School home for my oldest Max, my wife and I had an “ah ha” moment at Indian Creek. That was it, this was the community and school that our family needed. The opportunity to participate in the exciting growth of the Creek community is something I can’t wait to be a part of.”

Amy Coleman ’93, Ex Officio
Amy Coleman ’93 has been elected to serve as the next Faculty Representative to the ICS Board of Trustees.
An alumna of the Evergreen Class of 1993, Amy is entering her 23rd year as a member of the ICS faculty. Amy’s close connection with our school founders, her experiences throughout the School’s history, and the important roles she has played through the years make her uniquely qualified to help guide the direction of ICS into its second 50 years.

Amy has most recently served as the Lower School librarian, Resource Center teacher, and Middle School faculty member. She also serves as team leader for the Grades 4-5 faculty. Amy has presented at teaching conferences nation-wide in the areas of metacognition and using picture books to teach students of all ages.

Amy’s educational expertise, dedication to the ICS philosophy, institutional knowledge, and forward-thinking mindset are some of the many reasons why we are proud to have her serve as the next faculty representative to the Board of Trustees.
