Student Spotlight: Kat Spencer '22

Kat has been a part of ICS since 2018 and it a huge part of the Creek theater community.  Along with a lead part in the fall play "Puffs" she also choreographed the middle school production of "Matilda, Jr".  Her favorite thing about ICS is EMPOWER.  "EMPOWER means the world to me and I feel so grateful to be able to lead it."

In addition to EMPOWER and the theater program, Kat also is a member of BSA, Wellness Club, and the ICS Dance Team.  Outside of school, she stays busy as part of the Anne Arundel County Youth Advisory Council, Anne Arundel County Youth Corps, Anne Arundel County Police Department Youth Advisory Council, Poetry Out Loud, and working as a hostess at a local restaurant.  Kat considers some of her biggest achievements at ICS becoming a leader in both the theatre department and in student equity initiatives. After graduation Kat is looking forward to focusing on topics of gender studies and acting in college.

Two of Kat's fondest memories are: "Getting ready for theater shows with everyone listening to music, talking, laughing, doing our makeup, and getting into costume. There's so much excitement and it's such a bonding moment for a cast no matter how big it is, the energy is so positive and bright. The other is being in EMPOWER and just laughing and having a good time with all my EMPOWER friends during lunches."
