Sixth Grade Students Create Found Object Toys in "Clay Marble" Studies
In order to bring their reading of Minfong Ho's novel The Clay Marble to life for their students, Ms. Strickland and Ms. Alexander challenged the sixth graders to creat their own dolls or toys using objects they could find at home. In the novel, the main character Jantu uses found objects to make toys to lift the spirits of the Cambodian children. As Jantu was able to send a little bit of hope with so little, Indian Creek students rose to the challenge of doing the same. The students used their creativity and resourcefulness to make engaging dolls to share with the class. They presented their projects to their teachers and classmates using photos and flipgrid videos.
