Sixth through Eighth Grades Enchant Audience in "The Little Mermaid"

Indian Creek's sixth through eighth grade students took audiences on a magical journey under the sea on February 12-13 and 15-16, through their enchanting production of Disney "The Little Mermaid, Jr."

Over 30 middle grades students and 40 volunteers, including Lower and Upper School students, parents, grandparents, and alumni poured their hearts (and many, many hours) into this spectacular production over the past four months. Their dedication paid off, as over 500 audience members enjoyed four inspiring performances.

"It was awesome! Our 2nd grader thoroughly enjoyed it!," shared Lower School parent Holly Wijesinghe.  "The costumes and sets were phenomenal," agreed audience member Sharon Welsh. Beloved characters such as Ariel, Prince Eric, Flounder, Scuttle, and of course, Ursula shared the stage with mermaids, sea creatures, pirates, and lots and lots of bubbles to bring this classic fairy tale to life. The characters even came out in costume after the Saturday show for a special photo op with delighted Lower School audience members (and proud parents.)

While the final performances were impresive, it is the memories from the entire experience - from auditions and rehearsals, to stagework and showtime - that students will carry with them for years to come. The onstage and behind-the-scenes experience for the cast and crew help students develop the confidence to take healthy risks, which is an important part of the Indian Creek experience. "Because of the musical, I've made so many friends and done things that I never imagined were possible," shared Anna Porter '24 (Ariel) as she thanked the directors after the final curtain.

Special thanks to show directors Mrs. O'Connor, Mr. Woodward, and Jordyne Hebron '20, as well as Volunteer Coordinator and Costume Lead Brigitte Rains '84, Choreographer Emily DeLisle, Stage Designer Nick Paddy '16, Technical Director Emma Kornmeyer '21, Props Lead Shonda Davis, and Hair and Make-up Lead Lynann Derrick, and the many other volunteers for making this show an incredible experience for Indian Creek students.
