Third Grade Students Take Studies Outside

The Class of 2029 took advantage of Maryland's sunny August weather - and the beautiful Evergreen Campus - by taking several lessons outdoors this week! In Math, students created number lines outside on the sidewalk. Then, in order to illustrate what the numbers they were working with actually represent, the third graders estimated the location of numbers on their lines marked in ones, fives, tens and hundreds.

S.T.E.M. class took the students outdoors as well, as the class visited the pond to gather samples for their first lab of the year. In order to learn about the environment, students observed microscopic organisms found in mud using a magnifier and petri dish. This activity enhanced the students' understanding of biotic and abiotic factors within the environment. The students, along with Mrs. Fowler and Mr. Bear, enjoyed these opportunities for outdoor education!
