On Tuesday, April 16, the Indian Creek Varsity Baseball team travelled to Easton, Maryland, to face the Sabres of Saints Peter & Paul in an MIAA C-Conference faceoff. Led by six innings of two-hit, four-strikeout pitching from junior Maurice Miller-Elder, the Eagles prevailed 4-1.
In addition to his strong pitching, Miller-Elder went three for four in four plate appearances, scoring once and hitting a triple. Other Eagles with multiple hit games were sophomore Travis Garnet and junior Parker Harris who each had two hits, including a double by Garnet with an RBI and two RBIs for Harris. Sophomore Evan Selmer earned the last RBI with a hit in the sixth inning to drive home Miller-Elder from third after his triple.
Defensively, the Eagles were nearly perfect with only one error that did not lead to a run. Sophomore Alex Seidleck had another great defensive performance at shortstop throwing out three batters at first base plus another at second, and catching a low line drive that led to a double play. Junior Andrew Biggers had a good catch in right field to end the first inning. Garnet took over from Miller-Elder in the seventh inning with the score at 4-1 and struck out the side to preserve the victory and earn the save.
The Eagles are now 5-1 in conference play, 6-2 overall. Next up for the Creek is Concordia Prep on the ICS home field on Thursday, April 18, at 4:15 pm. Congratulations Eagles!
