Honoring our Varsity Girls Basketball Class of 2019
As our Varsity Girls Basketball team plays their semi-final game tonight, we wish them the best of Creek luck. In particular, we'd like to send our five seniors into the game with the best of Creek love. This tribute was shared at the Varsity Girls Basketball senior game on Friday, January 18:
The Indian Creek School Girls Basketball Class of 2019 has carved a special place in the hearts and minds of the ICS community, as well as the record books. Parker Booth, Maddy Evans, Delany Dignam, Kara Mathews, and Paige Wells will long be remembered for not only what they have accomplished on the basketball court, but also for all that they have done as part of our community.
Their extraordinary performance as basketball players is undeniable. Over their four years as Eagles they have won over 75% of their games, which ranks as the highest winning percentage in Indian Creek history. They hold the record for the most ICS girls basketball wins in a season (23), and the longest winning streak (15) that stretched for parts of two seasons. They have gone undefeated all four years against IAAM Anne Arundel County rivals Key and Severn, posting a collective record of 10-0 against the Obezags (6-0) and Admirals (4-0).
These girls also have given our community many unforgettable moments. They have won the Annapolis Area Christian School Hoops Classic Tournament twice, beating the host team in the championship game on both occasions. If you were there, you likely remember the night during the 2016-17 season, when with their backs truly against the wall in a pressure-filled semi-final game against Oldfields, trailing by 18 points at halftime, these girls showed their grit by mounting the largest comeback in the program’s history led by a combined 28 second half points from Maddy (18) and Delaney (10), and an amazing nine second half assists from Paige. They were not done with the thrills for that special season, where just three days later they defeated Garrison Forest 43-36 to deliver Indian Creek’s first Girls Basketball Championship!
As special as they have been as a basketball team, the girls’ on court success has been eclipsed by what they have done as part of the Indian Creek student body. Just how they have won together on the court, they have achieved together off the court. Together, all five of these young ladies were inducted into the National Honor Society as juniors. Together all five of them have managed challenging academic schedules by taking a combined 32 AP courses, and obviously taken them well, with a combined GPA of 4.12. Together they have earned a combined 42 varsity letters. Together they have performed or worked in a combined 10 ICS theater productions. Together, each of them has at some time, while doing all of these things at ICS, managed to hold down part-time jobs.
Former Indian Creek Athletic Director and Girls basketball coach Jamie Cook had this to say about the Class of 2019 players, “I cherished every day that those girls put Indian Creek on their backs and made our name synonymous with winning.”
We are fortunate to be celebrating this truly special Girls Basketball senior class for all they have done for this team, and for all they have done for our school.
Parker Booth
Parker has been a special part of the Indian Creek basketball team even before arriving on campus. She was a regular fixture at off-season workouts from the time she finished eighth grade, and made an immediate impact on the Program as the MVP of the JV team as a freshman. Not surprisingly, she continued to contribute to the Program throughout her career. During a two-season stretch of unparalleled success in the Program’s history when the Creek Girls were at their peak, winning 80% of their contests, Parker played in each of those 49 games, including the IAAM championship where she contributed a key, early first half basket. In addition to basketball, Parker has contributed to the athletic Program’s success as a member of the field hockey and lacrosse teams.
Coach Ciaran Lesikar notes that “Parker brings a strong work ethic and positivity to the team. Her willingness to push her teammates every day and support younger players has been invaluable to the team’s success this year.”
Parker has been a remarkable part of the ICS student body since the first grade. She is a 4.29 GPA STEM student, where she has focused her study on the effect of ocean acidification on oyster shells. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Art Honor Society. We are fortunate that Parker is leaving a legacy at the school that will benefit students long after she graduates by being one of the co-founders of Indian Creek’s Key Club chapter. Outside of school, Parki B’s favorite food is sushi and she enjoys traveling, playing with her dog, and singing. In fact, she showed off those singing skills as part of the ICS casts for the musical productions of In the Heights and High School Musical.
Delaney Dignam

Delaney Dignam
Delaney has been a regular starter since the first time she put on an ICS uniform as a freshman and that has been a four year problem for opponents! She has been a steady presence for The Creek, and currently sits among the top five scorers in school history with her 384 points and counting. While there are not records of rebounds in the school’s archives, there is little doubt that Delaney would be among the top career rebounders in ICS history. Her toughness and determination has deflated many foes and inspired her teammates. In addition to being selected as the team’s captain for the 2017-18 season, Del has served as a two-time captain of the ICS soccer team where she earned All-Conference accolades as a sophomore, and was voted Most Outstanding Player as a senior.
Coach Lesikar adds about Delaney’s play that “she brings aggressiveness and intensity inside to the team. Her rebounding and posting up ability are critical to the success of our half-court offense and defense.”
Delaney is an excellent student with a 4.2 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, and she also contributed to three ICS theatre productions as a stage hand. Outside of school Delaney’s favorite food is Chipotle and she enjoys bowling and spending time with her friends.
Maddy Evans
Coach Lesikar adds about Delaney’s play that “she brings aggressiveness and intensity inside to the team. Her rebounding and posting up ability are critical to the success of our half-court offense and defense.”
Delaney is an excellent student with a 4.2 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, and she also contributed to three ICS theatre productions as a stage hand. Outside of school Delaney’s favorite food is Chipotle and she enjoys bowling and spending time with her friends.
Maddy Evans
Quite simply no Indian Creek basketball player has had a four year career as prolific as Maddy Evans. Maddy has scored well over 1,000 points and currently ranks just behind all-time leading scorer Cydni Cole ’14, whose historic top mark is in serious danger. After missing the first seven games of her freshman year with an injury, Maddy has put together a remarkable streak of scoring in 78 straight games, which is still growing!
Only one other player (Cole) has put up more points in a single game than Maddy’s 36 against Garrison Forest as a junior. She has scored in transition, tough baskets in traffic, free throws, and deep three pointers, where her 27 threes currently rank her fifth all-time among ICS girls.
Maddy’s on-court contributions have involved far more than putting points on the board. In addition to being a team captain, it is indisputable that few, if any, ICS players in the Program’s history have grabbed as many rebounds or made as many steals as Maddy Evans over these past four years. Her success has been recognized well beyond the Creek’s Crownsville campus with a long list of well-deserved accolades including: two-time All Anne Arundel County; two-time IAAM All Conference; two-time Team Most Outstanding Player; three-time AACS All-Tournament Team (two-time MVP); ABC2 News Student Athlete of the Week; two-time Capital Gazette Athlete of the Week; and Baltimore Sun Athlete of the Week. In addition to her prowess on the basketball court, Maddy has been a four-year starter in field hockey where she was a two-time captain and earned All-Conference and All-County honors as a senior.
Maddy’s play has no doubt impressed Coach Lesikar who says, “Maddy brings a high basketball intelligence to the team which she leverages to lead the team in steals. In addition, her ability to attack the basket sets her apart from most players in the county and league.”
Mads’ work off the court is no less impressive. She carries a 4.29 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Key Club. She’s also been cast in two ICS theatre productions: In the Heights and High School Musical. Not surprisingly, the Capital Gazette recognized Maddy as an Outstanding Junior Student Achiever. Outside of school, Maddy’s favorite food is crabs and she enjoys singing and playing the guitar.
Kara Mathews
Kara has been a remarkably steady and reliable part of the ICS team since joining the ICS community four years ago. Along with classmate Paige Wells, she has played in more games than any ICS girl basketball player. Kara has joined a small and exclusive club of Creeker girls who have scored over 150 points, and she’s not done yet!
Beyond basketball, Kara has been one of the most important female athletes in school history due to her significant overall contributions to the Program. She has been a four–year starter in both soccer and lacrosse, where she was the Most Outstanding Player in her junior season; and she has been a team captain for both sports. When Kara graduates in June after her finishing her final lacrosse season, she will have played in more wins than any girl in the history of the Indian Creek School Athletic Program!
Coach Lesikar appreciates Kara’s value stating that “she brings experience and versatility to the team. Her court vision and focus allow her to provide much-needed depth and passing to spark our half-court offense at much needed times.”
An excellent student, Kara’s STEM project involves the effect of exercise on brain activity. She has a 4.03 GPA and is the Treasurer of the National Honor Society, a member of the Art Honor Society, and a member of the Spanish Honor Society. Outside of school, KJ’s favorite food is pizza and her favorite hobbies include boating, cooking, and singing.
Paige Wells

Paige Wells
Paige’s intensity has been part of every Indian Creek game these past four years, putting her at the top of the list of all-time leaders in games played for the ICS Girls’ team with Kara Mathews. She is considered among the best perimeter defenders in ICS history, while her 286 points and counting place her among the top 10 all-time scorers at the school. Paige has been one of the most successful three-point shooters at the Creek, and her 37 threes currently ranks third behind only Cydni Cole and Christina McPhail for most three-point field goals made at ICS. She is a team Captain, and was selected as the Player’s Choice Winner as a junior and selected for the AACS All-Tournament Team as a senior. In addition to her hoop career, Paige has been a four-year starter on the ICS field hockey team where she was a two-time captain, and selected for the Player’s Choice (junior) and Most Outstanding Player (senior) Awards.
According to Coach Lesikar, “Paige brings natural leadership skill, a calm demeanor, and excellent passing skills to the team. As our best on ball defender she anchors the point of our defensive pressure, setting the tone for the rest of the team.”
Paige’s off-court performance has been just as stellar. She has a 3.83 GPA, and is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Advisory Council. Paige was the first Indian Creek Student selected to attend the American Legion Girls State and also has been recognized for her performance on National Latin Exam earning Magna cum laude (Latin I) and Cum laude (Latin II). A Creek Lifer, Paigy has participated in the ICS theatre program as a stage hand for three productions during her time at the Upper School. Indian Creek School
Indian Creek school is a co-educational, college preparatory independent school, located in Crownsville, Maryland. Students in Pre-K3 through grade 12 receive a vibrant educational experience based on excellent academics steeped in strong student-teacher connections.
