Jill Woodward

Since joining ICS in 1995, I have seen ICS grow and my family grow along with it. I feel lucky to have my husband here as a fellow teacher and my children here as students. My career has taken me in many interesting directions. My training was at a conservatory, The Hartt School of Music, where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Vocal Performance. While at Hartt, I was lucky enough to study with John Feierabend, whose curriculum I implemented in the Lower School at the beginning of my years at ICS. This training helped me form the basis for my philosophy in teaching music: Music literacy under the umbrella of JOY! I strongly believe that students must learn to read and write music and do so in a joyful and creative way.

I have had the opportunity to teach all grade levels here at ICS, from PK – 12. This has served my teaching well and has helped me to seriously delve into how students learn music. I am also a dedicated performer. I am a soloist and children’s music director at St. Anne’s Church in Annapolis, and have been on the staff of Live Arts Maryland as conductor of the Annapolis Youth Chorus and soloist with the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra and Chorale. I believe this part of my career helps to keep my musicianship at its best so that I might continue to challenge myself and my students. I am proud of the strong Performing Arts at ICS and the support from our community continues to support our growth.
