Varsity and JV Field Hockey Teams Open Season with Action Packed Games vs. Park

The Indian Creek Eagles Varsity and JV Feld Hockey teams opened their fall seasons on Thursday, September 6, hosting the Park School Bruins. The weather was warm but not as hot as the action on the field. Both teams came out swinging in the first half which saw end to end action and multiple scoring opportunities for both teams. It was the Bruins that were able to get the upper hand though, scoring three in the first 30 minutes. Park School Bruin Lowe had 2 goals, one off of a penalty stroke, while Nusinov had a goal and an assist.

The Eagles ruled the second half, as the action stayed mostly the Bruin's defensive half. Fueled by strong counterattacks led by Liz Foster '20 and Ellie Sharma '21, the Eagles had multiple circle penetrations. Senior sweeper Paige Wells was all over the midfield, organizing a stifling defense and feeding fellow midfielders Colleen Shrum '19, Megan Tempkin '19, and Maddy Evans '19 who were able to place many a fine ball into the attacking circle. Alas, the first half deficit and some strong play from the Park goalkeeper proved too much to overcome and the game finished 3-0 in favor of the Bruins.

The Junior Varsity game proved just as exciting with even more goals. Freshman goalie Hannah Gomberg was a force to be reckoned with in her first-ever game, making multiple clears well outside of the circle and only allowing three goals. Fellow freshman Gabby Pardo was a whirling dervish of forechecking energy and it was her tireless efforts that set up junior Lena Warner with her first goal of the season. Later in the game Warner almost got another but was robbed by the near post. The defense was anchored by strong performances from Lexi Torstenson '22 and Kate Boney '22, while Mary Kate House '19 and Ava Rouse '21 were indefatigable in the midfield.

The Eagles look to pick up where they left off in the second half with a Monday evening game at Elizabeth Seton High School. Go Eagles!
