Class of 2026 Leaves a Legacy of Excellence at Indian Creek School

As the Class of 2026 crossed the stage at graduation on May 29, they left behind far more than a list of accomplishments. They leave a legacy of kindness, leadership, curiosity, and connection.

Over the course of their time at Indian Creek School, these 68 graduates challenged themselves academically, artistically, and athletically while helping create a community that students and faculty alike describe as one of the strongest in recent memory. By graduation day, they had earned 473 college acceptances from 196 institutions across 20 states, Washington, D.C., and two international universities, along with more than $3 million in scholarship offers.

But for those who know the Class of 2026 best, the numbers only tell part of the story. In his commencement remarks, Head of School Booth Kyle reflected on what made this class so special.

"The best performances. The best projects. The best energy. That did not happen by accident. It happened because the Class of 2026 led this school with positivity, school spirit, and a commitment to bringing others up along with them."

Throughout the year, the Class of 2026 set the standard for excellence across every corner of campus. Fourteen seniors completed one of the most impressive cohorts ever to finish Indian Creek's STEM program, presenting sophisticated research projects ranging from artificial intelligence and engineering to public health and environmental science. Two seniors completed graduate-level Voros Humanities Theses, conducting original research and defending their work before expert panels.

Their talents extended beyond the classroom as well. Students excelled in theater, music, visual arts, athletics, leadership organizations, service initiatives, and entrepreneurship. Ten graduates will continue competing in collegiate athletics, including two at the NCAA Division I level. Three graduates will pursue architecture and music at highly selective programs, while others head to honors colleges, fellows programs, and specialized academic tracks across the country and abroad.

Yet perhaps the greatest measure of this class can be found in the way they cared for one another. "Whether mentoring younger students, welcoming someone who felt left out, or showing up for teammates and friends, they consistently chose community over competition," Kyle said during commencement.

That spirit appeared again and again throughout graduation week. When presenting the Anne Chambers Achievement Award, Kyle described recipient Madeleine Hunt as "a quiet force" whose leadership helped hold the class together through her positivity, consistency, and ability to bring people together. Similarly, Jim Clauson Service Award recipient Isabelle Sussman was recognized as "the kind of student who elevates everyone around her," a fitting description for a class filled with students who viewed success as something to be shared.

Senior speaker Norah Young captured the spirit of the class in her farewell address, reminding her classmates that each person possesses something uniquely valuable to contribute to the world:
"You are not just one in a million. You are one in 64 billion."

She encouraged her classmates to remain grounded in the people and values that shaped them, adding:
"You have something in you that nobody else has. Something this world genuinely needs."

That combination of confidence and humility, ambition and compassion, has become a defining characteristic of the Class of 2026.

Their college destinations reflect the remarkable diversity of their interests. Graduates will attend institutions ranging from Princeton University, the University of Notre Dame, and Wake Forest University to Berklee College of Music, the University of Edinburgh, Morgan State University, the University of Southern California, and dozens of other outstanding colleges. They will study everything from computer science, engineering, architecture, and marine biology to business, political science, music performance, nursing, philosophy, and aviation maintenance technology.

As they leave Indian Creek, the Class of 2026 will do so having strengthened the community they called home. "They have raised the bar for what it means to be a Creeker," Kyle told graduates, "and their impact on this school will be felt long after today."

The Class of 2026 leaves Indian Creek with extraordinary accomplishments, limitless potential, and a community that will always be cheering them on. And while their next chapters will take them across the country and around the world, they leave knowing exactly what it means to be a Creeker: to pursue excellence, to lift others up, and to make every community they join a little better than they found it.
