Indian Creek’s Frederica Newman Named MSADA District 11 Athletic Director of the Year

Frederica Newman, athletic director at Indian Creek School, has been recognized as the 2026 District 11 Athletic Director of the Year by the Maryland State Athletic Directors Association (MSADA).

The honor places Newman among the top athletic administrators in the state, recognizing her leadership, commitment to student-athletes and contributions to interscholastic athletics within her district.
Leadership Recognized Across District 11

Newman has served as athletic director at Indian Creek since 2023, where she has helped shape a well-rounded and competitive athletic program. Her leadership emphasizes both athletic excellence and character development, while strengthening the school’s presence within the region.

Before arriving at Indian Creek, Newman served as athletic director at Concordia Preparatory School, where she oversaw more than 30 competitive middle and high school teams. She also previously held the role of athletic director at Institute of Notre Dame and was assistant athletic director at St. Vincent Pallotti High School.

In addition to her administrative career, Newman has coached both lacrosse and basketball at several schools competing in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland, further underscoring her deep involvement in student-athlete development.

Newman’s path to athletic leadership includes experience outside of education. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law and worked as an attorney before transitioning into athletics.
She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Management from Goucher College, where she was a collegiate lacrosse and basketball player.

Newman has continued to take on leadership roles within the broader athletic community. She has served as Vice President of the IAAM and is a Registered Athletic Administrator through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

Lacrosse has remained a central part of her career. Newman has served as a Diversity and Inclusion representative for the US Lacrosse Chesapeake Chapter and was head coach of the ULAX Lacrosse Club in Annapolis.

Founded in 1976, the Maryland State Athletic Directors Association is a professional organization dedicated to supporting and advancing interscholastic athletic leadership across the state. The group provides resources, advocacy and professional development opportunities for athletic directors, helping to strengthen educational-based athletics programs throughout Maryland.

Newman’s selection underscores her impact both locally and statewide, as she continues to help guide and elevate high school athletics in the region.
