EMPOWER Club Welcomes New Female Indian Creek Faculty
Indian Creek School’s female empowerment club EMPOWER welcomed three new Upper School faculty and staff members during the club meeting on October 1, 2025.
EMPOWER Executive Committee member Casey Roth ’28 moderated a panel discussion featuring three educators: Spanish Teacher Cortney Davila, Upper School Administrative Assistant Laurie Dugay, and English Teacher Linnea Miller ’12.
Guest speakers talked about being inspired to work at Indian Creek due to the culture of kindness and well-being, the school’s growth, and alumni they know. Ms. Miller graduated from ICS in 2012, and she is happy to return as a teacher this year where she has found her favorite aspects of school culture remain and she is impressed by the improvements.
Additional topics discussed in the group were activities and interests enjoyed by speakers. The three faculty members were involved in dance, athletics, and D&D, in school, and they like to spend time with family, friends, and their pets when they are not at school.
When asked about how being female has impacted their careers, two panelists shared experiences about male colleagues being treated differently and paid more with less experience. Balancing family responsibilities like raising children inspired Ms. Dugay to be a stay-at-home mom for several years, and she enjoys working in schools now that her kids are grown.
EMPOWER members enjoyed advice provided by panelists when asked what they would say to themselves in high school:
“Trust your gut.”
“Stress less and support your friends.”
“Don’t worry about competing with others.”
“Lift each other up.”
Thank you to Ms. Miller, Ms. Duguay, and Ms. Davila for sharing your experiences with our students.
