Evergreen Institute Students Launch School Year with Meaningful Training and High-Caliber Partnerships at Summer Intensive

Students enrolled in Indian Creek’s flagship Evergreen Institute launched the 2025-26 school year with a summer leadership intensive that blended life-coaching, hands-on service, and world-class mentorship into a fun-filled week.

In partnership with Anne Arundel Community College’s prestigious Life Coaching Certification Program and the World Leadership School's Youth Purpose Summit, as well as several local non-profit organizations, this summer intensive laid the groundwork for Evergreen students to master self-awareness, communication, and holistic well-being—skills that will set them apart as future changemakers.

The rising ninth grade cohort kicked off the experience by cultivating Creek's campus garden and delivering fresh produce to supportive housing program Sarah’s House, while upper classmen packed “Backpacks of Love” for children entering foster care through the Blue Ribbon Project.

New Evergreen Institute members participated in a foundational Life Coaching certification course at Anne Arundel Community College, while Evergreen veterans progressed seamlessly from the Level‑1 to Level‑2. The group then journeyed to Annapolis’s Banneker‑Douglass Museum to explore “Leaders without Titles,” honing coaching techniques and active listening through personal interviews.

Next, the high school students joined the Youth Purpose Summit by World Leadership School—led by cofounder Erin Hawk—to uncover their unique strengths, craft purpose statements, and tackle real‑world challenges using the five steps of design thinking: Discover, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. By the week’s end, Evergreen teams created and pitched bold initiatives to help promote wellbeing at ICS —from a dedicated mental‑health wellness block and a school-wide Wellness Week to student‑designed kindness campaigns and athletics engagement incentives.  To celebrate and apply what they had learned, students concluded the summit with a trip to an escape room, putting their teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership abilities to the test in a fun “high stakes” environment.

Overall, the summit was an impactful experience, leaving students equipped with valuable leadership skills and ready to begin the school year with confidence and enthusiasm. With rigorous training, cross‑disciplinary collaboration, and high‑caliber partnerships, the Evergreen Institute will serve as a premiere incubator for student leaders ready to drive impact at Indian Creek and beyond.
