Indian Creek Golf Team Wins MIAA C-Conference Championship Title First Season Back in the League
Indian Creek School congratulates its Varsity Golf team for becoming co-Champions of the MIAA C-Conference to culminate an incredible first season back in the conference. After a seven-year hiatus, the Eagles returned to club play last year and rejoined the MIAA for the 2023 season. The co-ed team found great success, with their top two golfers (sophomores Ethan Thomas and Joelle Johnson) out-scoring their opponents 97-1 over the regular season.
The team finished their inaugural season with a remarkable record of 8-3-1. The team then battled Beth Tfiloh in the MIAA semifinals, winning 11.5 – 9.5, and earning a spot in the championship match. In the finals on May 17, the Eagles traveled to the Greenspring Valley Hung Club to tee off against Jemicy. The two well-matched teams played a great match, finally tying for the Championship title 10.5 to 10.5 - the same outcome of their first match earlier in the year!
Eagles Coach Brad Woodward congratulated both his golfers and the Jemicy players and coaches as well. “The championship match displayed all the best qualities of high school athletics. Jemicy coaches and players deserve high praise for their quality play and competitive spirit. Perhaps the most powerful moments were the exchanges of true sportsmanship and genuine respect on display between our players. How fitting of a karma circle conclusion that our teams ended up the season right where we began it back in March.”
Indian Creek congratulated it’s Champion golfers Zach Alford ’25, Grace Casteel ’26, Gavin Fridley ’24, Ben Grzeskiewcz ’26, Ryan Hunsicker ’25, Joelle Johnson ’25, Katherine Ross ’24, Sam Sussman ’23, and Ethan Thomas ’25, along with Coach Woodward, with a Championship parade upon their return to the Pre-K- grade 12 school Wednesday morning. Their efforts have laid the groundwork for a successful program and raised expectations and excitement for the future of the team!
