Performing Arts

Music and theatre are important parts of every Indian Creek student’s education. From the smallest students in the Early Childhood program to our oldest students who are preparing to move out into the world, each child has the opportunity to explore and develop their artistic expression through singing, instrumental music, dance and theater. Reader’s theater, vocal and instrumental concerts, and talent shows provide appropriate and exciting “stage time” for our youngest students, as an important part of the Indian Creek curriculum. Fifth grade Shakespeare performances enhance the performing arts experience to prepare students for the grand production of our annual Middle School musical. The Upper School years bring opportunities to participate in a fall play, spring musical, a wide variety of concerts and competitions, as well as a student-produced children’s show.

Many performing groups and individuals in the Upper and Middle School have achieved critical acclaim. Instrumental and choral ensembles have earned top ratings at local, state, and regional festivals. The Middle School ensembles regularly participate in regional competitions, such as “Music In The Parks” at Kings Dominion, with great success each year. The Upper School ensembles have attended competitions such as USA Fest in Orlando with top awards as well. Upper School theater productions have been nominated for dozens of Cappies awards and have brought home awards in many categories including Best Play in 2015 for their production of The Laramie Project.

Graduates of the Indian Creek School Performing Arts department have gone on to many musical endeavors including: national tours of A Chorus Line, Beauty and The Beast, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Hair, competing on Fox Network’s “X Factor,” attending music conservatories,; and professional performance. The Upper School has an active Tri-M music honor society which participates in special musical events and fundraising for the school’s music program and for many organizations in the community.
