On Broadway! The History of Broadway Through Performance

Grades 7-12
July 6-31
Enrichment Course

Do you love Broadway shows and singing? In this class, we will learn the history of theater and the great Broadway traditions through song.

Each week we will discover the history and structure of theater while concentrating on different eras of Broadway music.  We will learn about shows of the times, styles of performance and the great composers and performers. We will do this while learning songs you will sing in our live masterclasses during the week. We will have fun performing for each other, and students will receive acting and singing coaching on their Broadway song performances.
The class will include:
  • Study of the history of theater from Greek theater to present
  • Exploration of four of the major eras of Broadway theater
  • Learn one excerpt of a song from the chosen Broadway era of the week
  • Masterclasses on Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Acting and vocal coaching
  • Recital on the last day for parents and friends
Note:  Due to the masterclass focus of this course, synchronous meetings will be required.
