Grades 11 & 12
July 6 - August 1
Writing about yourself can be challenging, especially when it is the only opportunity for an admissions officer to get to know the real you. This course helps students compose their college admission essay and provides them with a springboard to get ahead of the very busy, and sometimes stressful, college application process. Each week, you will cultivate the tools necessary to develop and finish an essay ready to wow any college.
Indian Creek Humanities faculty member Becca Derry will provide guidance and regular communication throughout the four weeks, from pre-writing in week one, to drafting in week two, to giving and receiving feedback in week three, to revising in week four. Through this course, students will be guided to consider the purpose (what they hope to convey about themselves), the structure (writing tools and techniques), and common pitfalls of their essays.
One-on-one video conferencing through Microsoft Teams will take place throughout the course.
