Winter weather did not stop the Indian Creek community from lining up for bright, sweet, lemonade for a cause close to our hearts this morning. As school opened, the line in front of the Pre-Kindergarten classrooms wound throughout the Bell Tower hallway, as Lower School students, teachers, and friends gathered to support Mimi’s Lemonade stand!
This year, the Pre-Kindergarten’s traditional lemonade stand, inspired by the book Lemonade in Winter by Emily Jenkins and G. Brian Karnas, was dedicated to the memory of Indian Creek Kindergarten student, Mirah Chhabra, who passed away in December. Mirah loved this story and activity last year, so the class felt it only fitting to name their lemonade stand after her and donate any proceeds from our stand to the Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG foundation in her memory.
Through this project, the Pre-Kindergarten students enjoyed reading the story together, and then had a fun time zesting and juicing lemons and limes this week. The children also experimented with lemons, limes, water and sugar to find out what was the best combination for making lemonade. They marketed their lemonade stand with signs painted and posted around the school and embraced their customer service roles as they served their lemonade. The class was thrilled to have so many customers, including Lower School students, Upper School students, school-wide faculty, parents, and friends.
At this time, the Pre-K students have collected $1,060.00 to donate through Mimi's Lemonade Stand, and donations are still coming in!
Additionally, we invite your family to join Mirah’s team, Mirah’s Many, in the Defeat DIPG Superhero Sprint & 6K, on Sunday, May 26, 2019. You and your family can join Mirah’s team through the following link:
