All Three Seniors Score in Varsity Boys' 8-0 Senior Night Victory

On Tuesday, October 23, the Varsity Boys Soccer team celebrated Senior Night with an 8-0 victory over the Cristo Rey Hornets, in a fitting fashion, with all three seniors scoring goals. The team was led in scoring by two goals from senior Ronan Fanning and two from junior Tyler Sheppard.

The Eagles started the scoring early with an unassisted goal from senior Carter Mullin in the fifth minute. Sheppard got his first about six minutes later with an assist from sophomore Rex Flanagan. For the next 19 minutes the Eagles struggled to solve Cristo Rey’s high back line, but eventually broke through with 10 minutes to go in the half with some gorgeous combination play between junior Sam Tator and frosh Finn Morrissey. Tator flicked a ball out wide to Morrissey with his head, then got a well-placed ball back from his freshman teammate that Tator calmly slotted past the keeper. The Eagles scored three more goals in the last 10 minutes with junior Ryan Walker firing in a goal (assist to Jai Richardson '20) before senior Fanning scored two unassisted goals generated by his high pressure on the Hornets back line creating turnovers that he powered past the keeper to make the score 6-0 in favor of ICS at the half.

In the second half, the Eagles bossed the midfield with lots of combination play and possession, but most of the Creek attacking players failed to time their runs to beat the off-side trap played by Cristo Rey. Sheppard finally made a well-timed run that he shot into the goal in the 20th minute of the second half. Senior Collin Brown got the last goal of the evening much to the delight of the crowd who were pleased to see all the seniors notch a goal in their last regular season home game of their high school soccer careers.

Indian Creek keeper John Warner had a mostly uneventful night, earning one save on three shots by Christo Rey. The Eagles took 32 shots and the Hornets keeper had six saves. ICS had three corners while Cristo Rey had none.  Creek is now 5-6 in conference play with two games to play.
