Eagles Come from Behind to Defeat Warriors 2-1

The Varsity Boys Soccer Team got back on a winning track with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Warriors of Beth Tfiloh on Monday, October 15. Senior Captain Carter Mullin led the way with a brace of goals to run the ICS record to 4-5.

After a back and forth first half that saw the Eagles take more shots and earn more corners, the Warriors took a 1-0 lead when the ICS backline failed to cleight minutes of the half, the Warriors were still up 1-0 at halftime.

The Eagles came out stronger in the second half and had the clear advantage in possession and scoring opportunities right from the whistle to start the final half. In the seventh minute of the half, freshman Danny Swope earned a free kick from the right side of the goal about 30 yards out when he beat his defender with the dribble, only to be dragged down from behind by the beaten defender. Sophomore Rex Flanagan launched a dangerous ball towards the far post that found the head of Mullin who drove it back across the goal and past the BT keeper to even the score at 1-1. The Eagles kept working to get the go-ahead goal and 12 minutes later junior Michael Mercer found Mullin just outside the box on the left side of the goal. Mullin took a touch around his defender to create some space and launched a right footed shot that found the upper ninety of the far side of the goal.

The Warriors tried to find the equalizer, but the Creek defense held tough to put away the game. The Eagles earned six corners to two for the Warriors. ICS keeper John Warner '20 had a solid game with three saves as BT took eight tough shots. Meanwhile, Beth Tfiloh keeper Eli Cohen also had three saves—including a spectacular save of a shot by junior Sam Tator that likely would have been the third home team goal—as the Eagles took 13 shots. The Eagles next play on Friday, October 19, at Mt. Carmel.
