Eagles Slay Dragons: Varsity Field Hockey Wins 1-0

After a week's hiatus, the Eagles Varsity Field Hockey team was on the road again -  the country roads of Howard County that is - to take on the Dragons of Glenelg Country School.

Contrary to the weather forecast, it was a beautiful summer day, not too hot, not too cold, just right for field hockey. And it showed from the beginning, as the first half saw the Dragons push hard and win five penalty corners to the Eagles' one. However Kendyl Underwood '20 was equal to the task and marshaled her defensive line of Kylie McLay '22, Liz Foster '20, and Ellie Sharma '21 to keep a shutout through the first half.

In the second half, the Eagles began to assert themselves with some strong attacks up the right side of field led by Olivia Maisano '21 and the tireless efforts of Sonia Homick '20 and Lauren Bode '19. Finally, a strong defensive stop in the midfield led to a counter attack which saw Maddie Evans '19 reward the hard work of Colleen Shrum '19, setting Shrum up at the top of the circle from where she deftly slid the ball past a strong Dragon's keeper putting the Eagles ahead 1-0.

The slim lead would stand as the Eagles were able to lock down their defensive half and keep the ball out of their circle and finish the game with their second straight win.

The Eagles look to keep their win streak alive when they cross the river to take on the Severn Admirals on Friday. Go Eagles!
