Varsity Boys Soccer Earns 8-0 Win Over Christo Rey

The Indian Creek Varsity Boys Soccer team earned an 8-0 victory over Cristo Rey Jesuit School at Patterson Park in Baltimore yesterday. The Eagles were led in scoring by midfielders Carter Mullin '19 and Tyler Sheppard '20 who each notched a brace of goals, and midfielder Callum Walker '20 who earned a goal and two assists.

The Eagles took an early lead in the sixth minute of the match when senior co-captain Mullin scored his first goal off an assist from sophomore Levi Kline. The Eagles peppered the Cristo Rey goal with multiple shots over the next 14 minutes, but every shot was either right at the Hornets keeper or not on frame. Finally, Mullin scored his second goal in the 20th minute, followed closely by a goal from frosh Sudan Wilson-Gumbs in the 21st minute. (Both goals were assisted by junior Callum Walker.) The Eagles scored again three minutes later when Ryan Walker '20 fed Sheppard a pass that Sheppard slotted into the back of the net to give the Creek a 4-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, forward Zim Ibe '21 started the scoring three minutes in with the game’s most spectacular goal, as he headed home a beautiful cross from the right from outside midfielder John Potter '20. Four minutes later, Ibe fed Kline who scored the sixth ICS goal of the game. The goals continued with Callum Walker’s first of the season off an assist from junior forward Shaun Gerety. Sheppard notched his second goal of the game and Ryan Walker earned his second assist to finish the scoring for the Eagles with about 12 minutes to go.

It was a relatively uneventful game for Eagles keeper John Warner '20 as the Hornets failed to threaten the Creek goal beyond a shot off a direct free kick early in the second half that sailed over the crossbar for the Hornet’s only shot on goal in 80 minutes of play. The Eagles are now 1-1 in the conference and next face Chapelgate Christian at home on Thursday (4:15 start) and Mt. Carmel under the lights on Friday (6 pm start).
