Maddy Evans '19 Named ABC2 News Student Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to Indian Creek junior Maddy Evans for being named this week's ABC2 News Student Athlete of the Week!  Maddy's outstanding season as the Varsity Girls' Basketball high scorer caught the eye of the folks at WMAR. Maddy's work off the court confirmed their belief that she deserved this honor.
The Indian Creek Eagles Varsity Girls Basketball team has benefitted immensely from Maddy’s talent and character for all three of her years on the team. She consistently leads her team in scoring, and her hard work and drive has led her team to the IAAM C-Conference semi-finals. Maddy was named Indian Creek’s MVP during the 2016-17 season, where they won the championships. She was also named to the IAAM All Conference team, nominated as an IAAM Athlete of the Week, and played on the 2nd All County Team. While Maddy’s numbers in each game show her leadership, her quiet support of her teammates are relied on to keep the team level-headed in tight contests.

Maddy’s community and school involvement are just as impactful as her contributions to the basketball team. She has volunteered for the SPCA, making and delivering dog treats, organized and participated in a variety of “Creek for Peace” global service projects, and she mentors and tutors local youth monthly through the “Backpack for Buddies” program. Over Christmas, she led the Indian Creek Key Club in collecting and delivering gifts to the Salvation Army. At church, she is a Leader of Prayer Service, supervises and instructs children during church activities, and volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul.

Maddy immerses herself in school life as well. In addition to being an invaluable member of the Basketball team, Maddy is also Captain of the Field Hockey team, and was awarded the titles of “Most Improved Player” during her freshman year, and “Most Outstanding Player” her sophomore year. She serves as a Board Member of the Key Club, an Admission Ambassador, and an active member of the “Creek for Peace” service club. Maddy is a member of the school choir, and has been involved in Indian Creek’s school musicals for the past four years.

Maddy excels academically as well. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society, has consistently been on the honor roll, is a Merit Scholarship recipient, and has been named to the Indian Creek Head’s List since her freshman year.

Outside of school, Maddy enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, and playing the guitar. While Maddy’s achievements are plentiful, it is her sweet personality, and humble way of deflecting recognition to her teammates and peers that comes to mind first for her teachers at Indian Creek. “She is mature, competent, and just plain lovely,” shares her advisor Hilary Briles. “Maddy is one of those kids who brightens the room. Who you know will be a success in whatever path she chooses.”
