Eighth Grade Students Bring Home Optimism, Enthusiasm, and Confidence from Genesee Valley

“I learned that I can challenge myself to take healthy risks.”

“I have the confidence to go one step farther and overcome my fear.”

“If I can do this, I can do anything!”

“With the help of my group, our team could do anything!”

“I did it!”

The sentiments of the Class of 2022 during their Genesee Valley debrief were full of optimism, enthusiasm, and confidence, after the Class spent three days camping and participating in the confidence and initiative course at the Outdoor Learning Center. From Wednesday, October 18, through Friday, October 20, 55 eighth graders, along with their faculty chaperones, enjoyed the great outdoors at Genesee Valley Outdoor Learning Center in Parkton, Maryland.

The students pitched their own tents, to set up their campsite, where they enjoyed songs around the campfire, s’mores, and tons of laughs together with friends new and old. Over the two days, counselors from Genesee Valley, led the students through a challenge course, comprised of over 60 low and high ropes course elements, including climbing walls, wire bridges, aerial obstacles and zip lines. Through this leadership and teambuilding course, students challenged themselves to work together and achieve goals that at first seemed unattainable to many. The Class of 2022 came together to cheer each other on and truly enjoy their eighth grade class trip. Click here to view a full gallery of Genesee Valley photos.
