Sustainability, Science, and Entrepreneurship Lesson Comes to Life as Seventh Grade Visits Butterbee Farm

“It was truly a great day,” shared Director of Evergreen Campus Alumni Bruce Crossman, after he took the Indian Creek School Class of 2023 on an enjoyable trip to Butterbee Farms, owned and operated by Alumna Laura Beth Resnick ‘03.  On Wednesday, October 11, the seventh grade class had an engaging, first-hand lesson in farming, sustainability, and entrepreneurship, as they traveled to Pikesville, Maryland, to explore Butterbee farms.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly greeted by fellow Creeker, Laura Beth Resnick, who shared her journey from the halls of ICS Middle School, through musical study at a Conservatory, to religious studies at a college, to the world of farming. Laura Beth shared her experience in trying to grow a variety of plants, until discovering a market need in the Baltimore area for cut flowers, and developing her farm to meet the needs of area florists, weddings, and event planners. Indian Creek students then toured the farm, enjoying a beautiful day outside in the flower fields. They then gathered together to create gorgeous bracelets and headpieces with flowers that they had picked themselves. After their morning at the farm, the students donned their new flower jewelry and enjoyed an afternoon of teambuilding through an “Advisory Shotgun Mini-Golf Tournament” at Nighthawk Golf Center.

Thank you to alumna Laura Beth Resnick and the friendly folks at Butterbee Farms for providing a wonderful day for the Indian Creek seventh grade. Click here to view a full gallery of Butterbee Farm photos.
