Sophomores Maddie Mixter and Annabelle Wellschlager Serve as 2022 Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Ambassadors

Indian Creek sophomores Maddie Mixter and Annabelle Wellschlager served as Indian Creek School Ambassadors at the 2022 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Conference. From June 9-12, Annabelle and Maddie attended the state seminar at Towson University, which provided a forum for the students to broaden their understanding of leadership potential and quest for self development. The girls were selected from a pool of applicants from the Class of 2024 through an essay contest.

As ambassadors, Maddie and Annabelle attended panels and keynote speeches on topics including entrepreneurship, diversity, education, and volunteerism. They also had the opportunity to practice leadership skills through "Leadership Labs," a variety of hands-on and fun activities. Their hard work was balanced with fun activities, including an Ambassador Talent Showcase, a game room, and a dance.
Both Maddie and Annabelle returned inspired to make a difference in the ICS community. As Annabelle shared, "HOBY was an experience of a lifetime. I got to meet with sophomores from all around the state and become close within a matter of days. I learned so much about leadership and how I can affect change in my community." Maddie whole-heartedly agreed: "It was such an incredible experience where we really got to meet so many amazing people and learn from some outstanding speakers!"
