Once upon a STEAM Day, ICS Lower School students rose to a series of challenges presented through a storybook-themed celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. On Friday, March 11, first through fifth grade students held a STEAM day, full of hands-on fun.
Students in Grades 1 through 5 spent the afternoon working on STEAM challenges centered around favorite childrens' stories. First through third grade students designed and built beds for goldilocks that were
just right, created houses for the fourth little pig, devised alternative methods for Rapunzel to escape her tower, coded “old lady who swallowed a fly” ozobots, and hand-crafted
Encanto castanets.
Meanwhile, fourth and fifth grade students had an EGG-CELLENT time at Indian Creek's first annual Humpty Dumpty Egg Drop Challenge. Student teams built custom egg-landers from pre-packaged supply kits, then tested them by dropping their eggs from a series of increasing heights. Congrats to our winning teams: Lucy & Kiva '30 and Lylah & Josh '29, who both survived a 12-ft drop!
STEAM Day 2022's intersection of literature, art, science, technology, engineering, and math was on full display during this afternoon of learning and fun!
