STEM Speaker Series Welcomes Medical Coder Cayla Turner '18

The ICS STEM Program Seminar Series welcomed alum Cayla Turner ’18 back to campus this morning, to speak with current students about her work in medical coding.

During her conversation with STEM participants, Cayla shared insight into her path after graduating ICS.  Unsure of what path she wanted to follow, she attended community college, majoring in Business Administration. She quickly decided that wasn’t the career for her, and switched paths to begin working as a Medical Assistant. In this role, she became immersed in the field of Medical Coding and Billing. Since then, she has become certified in Medical Coding and began working as a remote Medical Coder in March 2021.

Cayla's candid session with the STEM group gave great insight into the fields of medicine, hospital administration, and coding, while at the same time, illustrating that it's possible - and beneficial - to change paths as one gains experience in school and the workforce.

Thank you to Cayla for returning to ICS to share your perspective with our Creekers!
