STEM Speaker Series Welcomes McCormick Spice Director Whitney Shlesinger '95

The ICS Seminar Series welcomed ICS alumna Whitney Shlesinger to speak with students about her path from Indian Creek 8th grader to and Cost Savings Portfolio Director for McCormick Spices. Students enjoyed hearing about Whitney's journey, learning about a diverse array of STEM career options, and receiving advice from a successful Creek alum.

An Evergreen Campus graduate from the ICS eighth grade Class of 1995, Whitney earned her B.S. in Industrial Engineering at Penn State University and then went on to earn her MBA at Indiana University. Her post-graduate career path has taken her through a realm of positions in the industrial engineering/supply chain fields, with positions at Unilever, New Balance, and Tessemae’s All Natural, before landing her back in the Baltimore area at McCormick.

Whitney had great advice for Indian Creek's high school STEM students. She advised the Creekers to have fun, and find a job that aligns with their strengths and interests. She also shared that they should trust their instincts when making decisions, and they should never be afraid of change.  Whitney emphasized the importance of relationships along the way as well. Her greatest advice focused on taking healthy risks: "Try LOTS of things, be curious, and get out of your comfort zone."

Indian Creek thanks Whitney Shlesinger for sharing her valuable insight with Indian Creek students.  The next STEM Speaker Series will take place on February 25.
