Mercer '22 Notches Personal Best as Eagles Fight through Conference

It's been an historic season for the Eagles Varsity Boys Lacrosse team, as they hold their own through their first matches in the MIAA B Conference. The Eagles recorded the first B conference win in program history on April 13, with a 13-12 win over Glenelg Country School.

Another milestone came a week later, as junior Will Mercer recorded his 100th career point in a 21-8 win against Gerstell.  Mercer currently leads the team in scoring, notching 48 goals and 9 assists on the season.  In what the Capital Gazette dubbed "a battle reminiscent of the old Larry Bird versus Magic Johnson Celtics-Lakers matchups," Mercer established a personal record (along with rival AACS's Lucas Williams)  in yesterday's game with 10 goals. “Their goalie was good. They tried to lock me off but whenever I got the opportunity, I just thought ‘I need to get to the net, get a goal and change the game,’” the junior said. “My shots were hitting today and that was nice. I’ve never scored 10 goals in a game before. That’s pretty good.”

The Eagles benefit from an offensive powerhouse that is averaging 14 goals per game. In addition to Mercer, sophomore Benny Carter holds 28 goals, 18 assists, and 60 ground balls.  Nick Stroble '24, Dylan Harris '23, Cole Turner '22, and Roddy House '22 comprise the strong scoring unit. Freshman Ty Spencer has been consistently stellar in goal, while juniors Austin Harrison, Danny Swope and AJ DePaolis are key contributors to the defense.

The Eagles current record is 6-4, with one regular season game left (May 7 vs Park School) and playoffs to follow. Go CREEK!
