"Let's Talk about Body Positivity:" EMPOWER Club Hosts Second Event in Spring Series

"Let's Talk about Body Positivity."

On Monday, February 22, Indian Creek's EMPOWER group, a student-run club where students in grades 7-12 who identify as female have opportunities to gain leadership experience, explore issues facing women in today's society , and discover ways to combat barriers in daily life and the wider world, hosted its second event of their spring "Let's Talk about…" series. Monday's discussion focused on body image and body positivity. Upper School Counselor, Ms. Dotti Lang, joined students to discuss how they perceive themselves, and to share insight on ways to combat negativity in social media, and learning to practice body appreciation in their daily lives.

This spring, EMPOWER plans to host a series of conversations discussing issues facing the female-identifying members of the Indian Creek community. Earlier this month, the group held a conversation about Women in Leadership Roles, which included special guests Associate Head of School Eliza McLaren and Director of Performing Arts Jill Woodward to share insight from their professional experiences.  The next event will be held on International Women's Day on Monday, March 8, focusing on Feminists in History & the progression of Gender Equality. A teams link will be sent to the student body that morning.  Students can look to the EMPOWER CREEKnet page for more information or contact the Executive Committee: President Paige Clark '21, Vice President Katie Spencer '22, Secretary/Treasurer Kylie McClay '22, Event Chair Gabby Pardo '22, and Communications Chair Anna Crum '23.
