Crum and Leavitt to Represent ICS at Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Conference

Indian Creek sophomores Anna Crum and Julia Leavitt have been chosen to represent Indian Creek School at the 2021 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Conference (HOBY). Each spring, 10,000 high school sophomores from across the country participate in the HOBY Leadership Seminar to develop their leadership skills and learn how to apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace, and community.

Anna and Julia will attend this years conference, which is being held in a virtual format, from June 10-13. They join the ranks of years of ICS sophomore representatives, who consistently return from the experience inspired and empowered to make a difference in the local and global community. Julia and Anna were chosen by a faculty panel from a large pool of applicants who submitted essays about the five core HOBY values: Volunteerism, Integrity, Excellence, Diversity, and Community Partnership. Julia's essay focused on leadership, sharing that "I would define a good leader as being able to inspire. Leaders can inspire others by having a vision, a positive attitude, being able to collaborate with others by listening and taking advice so trust is created. Anna also wrote about leadership in her essay, as well as conveying the importance of service. "In my opinion, time is the best service. Spending time helping those less fortunate and just being there to help is enough."

Indian Creek wishes Julia and Anna well, as they immerse themselves in the HOBY experience, learning to dream big, make an impact, and change the world.
