We're Back! Eagles Basketball to Begin Competitive Play

Indian Creek Athletic Director Tyler Larkin announced Wednesday that the Eagles Basketball program has opted in to begin competitive interscholastic play this season at the Varsity and JV levels. This announcement follows statements released earlier this week by both the IAAM and MIAA Athletic Conferences, initiating the start of competitive interscholastic sports for the Winter 2021 season.

After careful consideration by the Eagles Athletics Department, school administration, and the ICS Medical Advisory Board, Indian Creek’s Varsity Boys, Varsity Girls, and JV Boys Basketball teams will compete against in-conference schools whose health and safety protocols align with ICS standards, with the priority of the season being to provide an opportunity for play. The season will consist of league competition only; there will be no winter playoffs or championships.

All practices and games will be held adhering to strict health and safety guidelines, following state, county, league, and school protocols, including mandatory masks, physically distancing, and no sharing of personal items. There will be no team transportation to or from games, and no spectators at this time. However, as Mr. Larking shared, "All games will be live-streamed so that CREEK Nation can cheer on our Eagles virtually." A skeleton crew of photographers and videographers will be allowed to film games for college admission purposes.

The Eagles Athletics Department heralds this much-anticipated return to competition as cause for celebration, putting the onus on the ICS basketball players and their families to lead the way in abiding by the ICS Pledge in order to ensure a safe return to play. This step, marking the School's first return to league competition in nearly a year, could be a harbinger of brighter days ahead. As Mr. Larking shared, "We are cautiously optimistic that a successful winter season will open the door for spring competition."
