Meet the ICS Class of 2021! Allison Smith has vigorously pursued two of her greatest passions: music and dance, while excelling in the academic arena at Indian Creek.
As a dancer with The Washington School of Ballet, Smith has balanced her schoolwork at Indian Creek with a demanding dance schedule. Smith danced the prestigious “Waltz of the Flowers” in The Washington School of Ballet’s virtual presentation of The Nutcracker this December. She also participated in a virtual winter showcase in which she presented a variety of dance styles as part of TWSB’s professional training division. “ICS has been extremely accommodating with my dance schedule,” said Smith, “and for that I am really appreciative to all my teachers!”
As a longtime clarinetist, Smith has enjoyed her time playing at Indian Creek. “I have been playing the clarinet since the fifth grade, and I was really glad to continue playing in the ICS band,” said Smith. “I really enjoy learning new pieces that helped me improve my playing.
A studious academic, Allison has found great success in her classes as well. She cites AP Language and Composition teacher Mr. Monack and Biology teacher Mrs. Roth as two of her favorites. “I enjoyed Mr. Monack’s class because I really grew as a writer and he made writing essays not as monotonous,” said Smith. “Biology with Mrs. Roth was fun because no matter what we were learning she made it enjoyable.”
Ultimately, Smith hopes to fuse her paths of study and work with her passion for dance. She plans to continue to dance at her soon-to-be-determined college destination and to double-major in dance and either psychology or exercise science while studying to become a physical therapist.
“I hope for an illustrious career in the dance world, and I would love to become a physical therapist who specializes in rehabilitating dancers,” she shared.
Smith has been motivated to succeed while at Indian Creek and believes she is empowered to pursue her goals in college and beyond. “My favorite aspect of ICS is definitely how much the teachers push and encourage you to be the best student you can be,” Smith said. “Due to this I believe that I have really grown as a person.”
