Alston George '22 named 2020 Young Cultural Ambassador by the American Turkish Association of Washington, DC

Indian Creek School congratulates junior Alston Georges for being named a 2020 Young Cultural Ambassador by the American Turkish Association of Washington, DC (ATA-DC)!  This is Alston's third year serving as an ATA-DC Ambassador, but one filled with unique rewards and challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alston, along with 23 other High School Students from across the U.S. were selected among a wide pool of applicants for his honor.  He completed a three-months-long Young Cultural Ambassadors Program (YCAP) and earned the title of 2020 Young Cultural Ambassador in December.

The YCAP program was launched in 2017 with the objective to encourage the nation's youth to appreciate and celebrate diversity through volunteerism and become future’s informed and concerned global citizens equipped to be actively engaged with their communities. This year, YCAP saw students participate in virtual classes and seminars on diverse topics including civic engagement, conflict management and resolution, refugees, media, creativity, privacy and freedom of expression on social media, social entrepreneurism, the electoral college, among others. They worked on team projects and engaged their local representatives on issues they care about.

After three months of hard work and dedication, Alston and his peers successfully completed the program, earning the title, of ATA-DC 2020 Young Cultural Ambassadors.  Please join us in congratulating Alston as a hard-working, engaged, curious, thoughtful and talented young leader.
